You can play a shell on a piano or a guitar, but not on a midi keyboard or seaboard, because we pick up sounds on acoustic instruments but only sense gestures on general electronic ones.

I pick up sounds from these electronic instruments as source for sound synthesis to gain freedom of shell-playing and to maintain tiniest playing nuances.
